Health Computing 2000 UK - Bursaries available
----------------------------------------------
March 20-22, 2000
Harrogate, UK
The HC2000 Conference and Exhibition is the biggest Health Informat-
ics event held in Europe. It is organised by the Health Informatics
Committee of the British Computer Society (BCS HIC: http://www.bcs.org.uk/)
Last year over 1200 delegates from UK, Europe, USA and the Far East
attended the Conference. Over 3000 people attended the associated ex-
hibition in 4 halls.
Bursaries
The organising committee offers a number of bursaries (approximately
10-15) to allow delegates to attend every year. These are offered to
colleagues from developing countries and Eastern Europe to enable
them to attend the conference. The bursaries cover Event registra-
tion, travel within the UK, accommodation and subsistence for the du-
ration of HC2000.
Candidates are invited to submit a brief essay in English (not more
that 5000 words) about how they feel Health Informatics could promote
better health in their country. If suitable this will be included in
volume 2 of the conference proceedings.
The application should also include:
- current job description and brief description of career
- contact details (address, telephone, Fax number, E-mail address,)
** If we cannot contact you, you cannot apply!!
- a brief resume of how you would disseminate the information and
experience gained when you return home.
The proceedings at HC2000 are in English with no translation facili-
ties, so the HIC (BCS) feel that the candidates will typically be:
* competent in both written and spoken English;
* in a position to be able to contribute significantly to the devel-
opment of Health Informatics in their home country in any clinical
or health management discipline;
* aged between 30 and 50, and in a key role in their organisation.
** Please note the following:
- Candidates are responsible for their own travel to UK (Heathrow
/Manchester airports/ports);
- Candidates are responsible for all costs of travelling companions;
- HC2000 will be responsible for costs of designated accommodation,
and 2nd class rail fares only. A sum of GBP 150 UKP for UK travel
(including London-Harrogate-London);
- Previous bursary holders are ineligible (within the last 5 years).
The closing date for applications is 21st December 1999. Successful
applicants will be informed by 10th February 2000, allowing plenty of
time for travel and Visas to be organised.
All those awarded the bursaries will be required to submit a short
paper or poster on the state of health Informatics in their country
and the key issues to be addressed in national or local developments
in their particular field. If suitable this will be included in vol-
ume 2 of the conference proceedings.
