Whether "health" is an isolated issue (2)
-----------------------------------------
It looks Dr. Shamim is talking from his heart and not from his
mind, with any commercial motives. Health is a very crucial sub-
ject and entwined with the whole life cycle and systems preva-
lent in communities, societies, nations and worldwide.
To me, health is a sub-set of life and health security including
against malaria or AIDS/HIV is denied, not because of lack of
funding, but because of misplaced funding, mainly due to lack of
transparency and accountability, corruption, nepotism, etc.
This is more prevalent and perceptible in poor developing econo-
mies and not so much in rich and developed economies. Mostly it
is the rich and powerful who dictate the DOs and DON'Ts in the
developing world and probably the developed world too and the
marginalised hardly have a say.
So the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful and the
poor and marginalised get more poor and more marginalised,
thanks to the inequalities perpetrated by individuals, families,
communities, nations, etc.
We need to change all these and let AFRO-NETS be the forum, as
it espouses the cause of Africans. May I add Asians too, as we
are on the same side as Africa, both physically and economi-
cally.
